Harken MKIV Ocean Installation

Preparation:

  1. Gather tools and materials
  2. Review safety precautions
  3. Pre-assemble components

Installation:
1. Headstay removal and replacement:

  • Remove the existing headstay while safely securing the mast.
  • Install the new headstay with the appropriate length and termination.

2. Furler assembly:

  • Assemble the furler unit following the manual's step-by-step instructions, including attaching the foils, halyard swivel, drum assembly, and other components.

3. Rigging:

  • Install the turnbuckle and toggle, connecting the headstay to the furler.
  • Adjust the headstay tension, it needs to be straight as an arrow.
  • Attach the furling line and feeder as per the manual's instructions.
  • Install the halyard and ensure proper routing and tension.

4. Commissioning:

  • Follow the manual's guidance on furler adjustments and initial operation checks.
  • Feed the sail through the foils and connect the tack to the tack swivel.
  • Wind up the drum in order to prepare the system.
  • Test the furling system ensuring smooth operation and proper sail furling/unfurling.

5. Final adjustments and checks:

  • Make any necessary adjustments to the turnbuckle, furling line tension, and halyard.
  • Thoroughly inspect the entire system for proper installation and secure connections.
