Gennaker Furlers
Gennaker Furlers
Top-down Gennaker Furling systems can make ripping downwind even more accessible for cruising crews and shorthanded sailors as well as as offshore and ocean racers. Gennaker furlers work by attaching an asymmetrical spinnaker to an Anti-Torsion furling cable or rope and hoisting it aloft on a halyard. A deck-level swivel, drum or sheave is driven by a looped line spinning the anti-torsion cable, winding the sail around the line from the head of the sail and working its way to the deck, hence the name top-down furler.
Code Zero Furlers are used on sails with a "straight luff" for upwind sailing on true wind angles less than 90 degrees like Code Zero sails, Screechers and Staysails. When the furling drum rotates, winds sail around the torsion rope (on the sail) along full.
