About the J - 24 One Design Class |
The International j 24 first launched back in 1976, is built in the U.S., Japan, Australia and Italy and has more than 25,000 people sailing 5,300 boats in 150 fleets in 40 countries.
Attention to the rules and strict international control provides close racing and attracts the world's top sailors. The j24 is also popular with weekend club sailors because it is fun, responsive in all conditions, and can be easily handled by one or two people.
The class has wisely allowed the development of new hardware systems to keep the boat up-to-date and easy-to-race. Normally crewed by 5 persons is an strict One Design class, which allows minimum improvements to the boat, trying to keep the competition as fair as possible.

Most of the actual World Class sailors have been j 24 racers for long periods before stepping forward into bigger boats and offshore competition. Names like John Kolius, John Kostecki, Ken Read, Chris Larson and many others were part of the group of skippers that leaded j24's in very competitive races all over the world.
