The important weight savings of Tacktick’s new Micronet
instrumentation give a decisive boost to competitive racing
boats. Add to the equation the system’s speed of installation,
immediacy of updating, plus total flexibility in use, and
it’s clear that Micronet has no equal.
Weight savings: if you could take out the
in-mast cable to the Wind Transducer, the weight you’d
save could allow you to have one less body on the rail, or
quite a few chunks carved off the keel. Well, now you can.
Micronet Displays are solar-powered, wireless-linked and cable-free.Your
battery bank can be smaller and lighter, too. Even the instruments
themselves are slimline and lightweight.
Speed of installation: transducers, transmitters
and displays (with the exception of the through-hull Speed
Transducer) can be fitted with the boat in the water and the
rig in place. Even the Speed Transducer needn’t slow
you down: if there’s one already in place, you may be
able to incorporate it into the Micronet system if it’s
an Airmar product.
Instant updating: need another large-digit
display at the mast just hours before a race? Pick it up from
the chandler’s, take it to the boat, switch on and perform
a simple networking operation, so that it links to the boat’s
unique network and becomes part of the system. Then attach
to the mast with sticky pads, or if you have a few extra minutes,
fit the cradle with self-tapping screws.That’s all.You
can set it to display any data available in your system.
Flexible
to use: where you site your displays isn’t
limited by the need to supply them with cables. So you can
put them anywhere. The tactician can even take one with him
to the weather rail, and monitor all the data from there.
RIB coach boat can monitor race boat data
via a display linked to the same network. The data is sent
by the NMEA Interface on the race boat, and can be saved to
a computer aboard either boat for evaluation later.
MOB* Transmitters (under development).To
be carried by each crew
member. As soon as one of them goes over the side, an alarm
will automatically be activated, and Micronet will calculate
and display the bearing and distance.Alternatively the system
will trigger the MOB function on the GPS. MOB information
overrides other data on a selected display.
Information On Deck (IOD) package: This on-deck wireless
solution gives you information where you need it. Micronet’s
IOD package includes racing software and wireless screen.
Plug them into your on-board PC and have the tactical information
where you want. Micronet can send and receive information
to your PC. Navigation and tactical software can then be displayed
on deck. Next leg apparent wind angle, sail choice, GPS position
on a digital chart, laylines, time & distance markers,
optimum route and weather overlays are a few examples of the
benefits of using a PC integrated with Micronet.
