Answers

Q1: Why does ProFurl utilize sealed bearings?
A1: ProFurl's permanently sealed bearing mechanism utilizes one of the strongest, most durable bearing materials available. This bearing design will continue to operate even under the most extreme loads, where other materials such as Torlon (plastic) will deform under high loads. Also, the sealed bearing mechanism is maintenance free. This means there is absolutely no maintenance for you to perform on the bearings, unlike other systems with open bearings.

Q2: Can I use my existing headstay?
A2: Yes, In most installations ProFurl fits over the existing headstay. ProFurl does not require stay replacement or major modification as with other systems. ProFurl fits over a standard O.E.M. headstay and is not an integral part of your stay. Simply, ProFurl is not subject to rigging loads.

Q3: Other systems use a closed drum for the furling line, why does ProFurl have an open drum?
A3: No matter how well a furling system is designed, sooner or later the furling line may become fouled on the drum. With ProFurl's open drum, access to the line is very easy unlike the systems with the fancy covers.

Q4: How does ProFurl prevent the halyard from wrapping around the headstay?
A4: The ProFurl patented "wrapstop" is fit to the top of your headstay and when engaged by the halyard tang, will not allow the halyard to wrap.

Q5: Can I use my existing sail, and what modifications are necessary?
A5: Yes, your existing headsail can be modified to fit the ProFurl. A luff tape must be added to the leading edge of the sail, and if you choose, a U.V. strip on the leach and foot.
