Performance oriented sailors can choose to mount the drum low to the deck to maximize sail area. They can choose foil shaped extrusions for an aerodynamic advantage when the sail is not reefed.
Cruising sailors can choose to mount the drum higher to make handling ground tackle easier, as well as to raise the sail off deck for better visibility and reduce chafe on the lifelines.
They can choose a unique rounded foil for strength and sail shape when reefed.
