Courageous, Jeanne Socrates, a 70-year-old woman from London, is the oldest woman (by far) to complete a solo circumnavigation of the Five Great Capes of the Southern Ocean. She had hoped for a non-stop trip but wasn't able to accomplish that goal due to the need for some major repairs after a bad knockdown a little over 100 miles West of Cape Horn.

Despite the stop for repairs, her journey resulted in sailing a distance of more than 28,800 miles in a little over 250 days at sea. Jeanne has plans to attempt this same non-stop voyage again in October.

Accompanying her is her 38 foot cutter-rigger Najad 380 "Nereida." We wish her the best of luck in her upcoming journey!!

    - Congratulations to Ben Ainslie, who has bypassed Denmark's Paul Elvstrom, as the most successful Olympic sailor ever. He completed the Men's Final Finn class race on Sunday, August 5th beating out Denmark's Jonas Hoegh-Christensen for the Gold medal. He lagged behind throughout the entire regatta, but it was all smooth sailing for Ben on the day of the final race.

He has participated in five Olympics winning his fourth straight gold at the London 2012 games. It all started when he earned his first Olympic medal (Silver) in the Atlanta 1996 games at the age of 19.

    - 505 World Championship took place a few weeks ago in La Rochelle, France. There were 188 entries in this year's worlds. What an incredible turnout. Congratulations to Jan Saugmann and Martin Gorge of Denmark for finishing in first place. Second place was another team from Denmark followed by a German team for third. Well done to all participants of the 505 World Championship. Already looking forward to next year? There is only eight months to go until the 2013 505 World Championship.
